BMATS and the Great Commission: Equipping Christians for Global Impact

by Sep 13, 2024

In Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus gave His disciples what we now call the Great Commission: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” This calling remains at the heart of Christian ministry today, and at the Baptist Missionary Association Theological Seminary (BMATS), we take this commission seriously.

Our mission at BMATS goes beyond simply teaching theology. We strive to equip our students with the tools, passion, and confidence they need to carry the message of Christ to every corner of the globe. As one of our alumni so beautifully put it, BMATS aims “To carry the message of Christ to everyone that I come in contact with!”

Fulfill the Great Commission by Learning and Doing

This response conveys the spirit we aim to instill in all our students. It’s not just about learning; it’s about doing. It’s about taking the knowledge gained in our classrooms and turning it into action in the real world, whether that’s in local communities or on international mission fields.

Another graduate shared that “BMATS directed my love and zeal for the Lord and gave me a greater sense of purpose in ministry based upon a firm foundation.” This testimony highlights a crucial aspect of our approach to theological education. We believe that effective ministry springs from a combination of passionate love for God and a solid theological foundation. Our curriculum is designed to nurture both.

We understand that zeal without knowledge can lead to misguided efforts, while knowledge without zeal can result in stagnant faith. At BMATS, we strive to balance these elements, helping our students channel their enthusiasm for the Lord into effective, biblically-sound ministry practices.

The impact of BMATS extends beyond just love and knowledge. As another alumnus succinctly stated, BMATS provides “Knowledge, Evangelism, and development of confidence.” This triad forms the core of our educational philosophy.

  1. Knowledge: We provide a comprehensive theological education, grounded in Scripture and enriched by church history and contemporary scholarship.
  2. Evangelism: We equip our students with practical skills for sharing the Gospel effectively in diverse contexts.
  3. Confidence: We help our students develop the self-assurance needed to step out in faith and lead others to Christ.

This combination empowers our graduates to make a significant impact for the Kingdom of God. Whether they’re serving as pastors, missionaries, chaplains, or in other ministry roles, BMATS alumni are prepared to face the challenges of modern ministry with wisdom, skill, and unwavering faith.

We are Committed to the Great Commission

As we look to the future, BMATS remains committed to its role in fulfilling the Great Commission. In an increasingly globalized world, the need for well-prepared, culturally sensitive, and deeply committed Christian leaders has never been greater. We continue to evolve our programs to meet the changing needs of the Church and the world, always keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus’ command to make disciples of all nations.

To those considering a call to ministry, we invite you to join us at BMATS. Here, you’ll find not just an education, but a transformation – a journey that will deepen your love for God, expand your understanding of His Word, and equip you to share His love with the world.

In the words of the Apostle Paul, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” (Romans 10:15). At BMATS, we’re in the business of preparing those beautiful feet to carry the Gospel to the ends of the earth. Will you answer the call?
